Since 1997 this program brings puppies into prisons to be raised and trained by prisoners to be guide-dogs. I love this program. It is hard to say who benefits more, the prisoner/trainer or the person receiving a well trained guide-dog. Many prisoners have been emotionally hardened since childhood; prison is a just a consequence of a difficult life combined with wrong choices. Only a puppy can mend broken hearts, broken lives by loving unconditionally and teaching how to love. Many of these dogs are now trained to assist Veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
